The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a (part-time/temporary) Development Coordinator, Heart Walk in our Midwest Affiliate, located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Objective: Serve as a temporary staff relationship liaison for specified accounts in the Heart Walk. Conduct site visits to identified Team Captains and Top Walkers. Assist as needed to achieve development goals for event .

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop a basic understanding of the AHA’s mission, marketing campaign (Life Is Why) and how the AHA spends donated funds

  • Passionately communicate the mission of the American Heart Association

  • Learn the key concepts of Heart Walk Participant fundraising, including:

  • Walker Recruitment

  • Online fundraising – basics of page set up and solicitation

  • Top Walkers – how to become one

  • Promoting Matching contributions

  • Vendor Campaign basics – focusing on fewer and larger as well as personal vendors

  • Visit pre-identified Corporate Team Captains, face-to-face meetings (3 times), to drive recruitment and team fundraising

  • Visit pre-identified Top Walkers, face-to-face (1-2 times), to support their fundraising goal achievement

  • Visit pre-identified Community Teams Captains, face-to-face (1-2 times), to drive recruitment and team fundraising

  • Conduct Kick Offs or Rallies where possible (under the direction of the Vice President)

  • Work directly with the Executive Director or Vice President of Heart Walk to identify weekly objectives and goals

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum two to three years experience in any of the following: community organizing and mobilization, public health, media advocacy, and electoral campaign experience helpful.

  • Ability to recruit, direct, coach, monitor, and supervise volunteers.

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the time, including some overnight travel.

  • Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 40 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
